Maria Read will be jumping for joy once again this weekend after her mum’s photograph was selected as the winner of The Journal’s Picture of the Week competition.
Karen Read, of Carlton Road, Lowestoft, took the image of her 11-year-old daughter earlier this month, shortly after a sudden downpour.
“I had just dropped off two of my other children at their rehearsals for The King and I at the Lowestoft Players’ hut,” said Mrs Read.
“It was just after 7pm and when we noticed the rainbow we stopped firstly at Pakefield cliffs and then further down near the Hatfield Hotel. I took around 30 photos in all and this was my favourite with Maria doing her High School The Musical jump.”
The image of the Elm Tree Middle pupil was chosen ahead of a number of top entries to claim this week’s prize, beating luscious landscapes, amazing animals and a dog in a shop window.
Mrs Read will be presented with her image in a 12in x 10in frame, mounted and inscribed, in a prize worth more than £60 from Picture Studios, of London Road North, Lowestoft. The photo will also go forward to the next final of winning images.
How to enter
We are now accepting entries for next week’s competition. They must be taken by amateur photographers and we would prefer the pictures to be digital and between 500KB and 1MB in size. We also accept prints but they need to be copies as we cannot guarantee their return.
To enter send your picture with your name, address and contact details to richard.wood@archant.co.uk and mark your email Journal photo competition. Prints can be sent to Picture of the Week, The Journal, 147 London Road North, Lowestoft NR32 1NB.

Winner of the past 26 weeks
Meanwhile, entries have flooded in from readers who voted for the best winning image over the past 26 week which featured a host of imaginative photographs.
And the winner, with a total of 21 votes, was Carl Baldry, of Pinewood Avenue, Lowestoft, with his picture of a tiger at Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens, at Filby.
